Support After Rape & Sexual Violence

Support After Rape & Sexual Violence Leeds (SARSVL) now provides support to women and girls by text and email as well as telephone. We have also increased and varied our helpline opening hours.

Confidential helpline:
Call us on 0808 802 3344
Text us on 07797 803 211
Email support@sarsvl.org.uk

Opening times:
Mondays 6pm to 8pm
Tuesdays 8pm to 11pm
Wednesdays 6pm to 8pm
Fridays 6pm to 8pm
Sundays 2pm to 5pm

It is free to call SARSVL’s telephone helpline from any number, whether from a landline or a mobile. This means that our number will never show on any phone bill.  Text messages sent to the SARSVL helpline will be charged at a woman or girl’s usual network rate. This means that if it is usually free for her to send text messages, her message to us will be free.

We are here to support all women and girls who have been affected by rape or sexual violence, whatever their experiences.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Our helpline is completely confidential, whether we are contacted by telephone, text or email. We won’t share anything a woman or girl tells us with anyone outside of SARSVL, unless she tells us something that makes us believe a child or adult at risk is in need of protection and she gives us information that identifies the child or adult.

If a woman or girl calls us or sends us a text, we can respond to her but we do not have access to her phone number. If she contacts us by email, we can respond to her but we do not have access to her email address. If she thinks that someone else might be able to read her emails or check the account she usually sends emails from, she might want to set up a new account just for contacting SARSVL.

We can only get her phone number or email address if she decides to tell us what it is over the phone, in a text message or in the body of an email.

A SAFE SPACE

We provide a safe space for any woman or girl to talk about how rape or sexual violence has affected her and we can help her explore her options. We would never tell a caller how she should feel or what to do. We believe that women and girls have a right to make decisions about their lives.

We aim to respond to text messages within four days and emails within five days. Calls should be answered immediately during our opening times, unless we’re on another call. If we’re closed or on another call, the caller can leave us a message and we’ll call her back.

All of our volunteers are women who have been trained to work on our helpline and to provide support to women and girls.

We understand that women and girls might experience rape and sexual violence at any time in their lives. We also understand that rape and sexual violence come in many forms.
