Who to contact outside the practice?

  • There are four main contact numbers for advice (contact any one of these, they will guide you)
    1. For all child protection matters: The Safeguarding Telephone Advice Line: 01274 437 500,  Mobile 07432 719 806
      Calls to this number are transferred to the team member taking calls for the day. It is intended to be a non- urgent advice line, available Monday to Friday from 8.30am to 5.00pm.
      The telephone is diverted to either one of the four Named Safeguarding GPs.
      Do not forget, if there is no immediate reply, and you believe you have an urgent problem - go ahead and report the problem! Social services will tell you if they think it is not appropriate, but at least you have acted in a proper manner.

    4. NSPCC & Neglect Line:  01274 381440
      NSPCC in Bradford are taking referrals for families where there are concerns of Neglect that do not reach the threshold of local authority    children’s specialist services.  To discuss referrals with NSPCC Duty worker on 01274 381440

  • The Police - 999 - they have various departments: the child protection unit, the child welfare unit, the forced marriage unit, the vulnerable adult unit, domestic violence unit.

Follow up in writing within 24 hours of referral to Children's Social Services  Important as it is to safeguard children at all times - it is also important to create an audit trail of all discussions had with other agencies Can we remind you that if you refer any case to children's Social Services, it is important that you follow this up in with a written summary of your referral information, within 24 hours.

Assessment of Bruising in Infants and Children

  • We all regularly see bruised children, but it is so important to recognise when the bruising may not be as a result of normal child hood activities.
  • Bruising in non mobile babies should considered as an indicator of physical abuse and thoroughly investigated in a multi agency setting.

It supports young people who are wishing to exit abusive and exploitation relationships/situations they find themselves involved/forced into. It also works preventatively with children and young people in a variety of settings as well as offering training and information sessions to groups of professionals regarding sexual exploitation.
