 ►focus is on emotional distress rather than mentally ill clients
►usually 6-10 weeks of therapy
►recent emotional crisis eg bereavement, relationship break-up, work stress, family crisis, trauma (rape, assault, redundancy, loss)
recent one-off opportunistic self harm attempt connected with any of the above
panic attacks/anxiety of recent onset
depression of recent onset (and some long standing ones too)
recent onset OCD
coming to terms will illness/disability
alcohol problem which is part of an emotional problem
clients with any of the above AND stabilised mental health problems		 referral form

You can discuss the case with a counsellor if you are not sure if a referral will be helpful or not

do not refer

clients with chronic and enduring mental health problems ie schizophrenia, bi polar, long standing OCD
psychotic clients
clients with learning difficulties (dependent on their ability to conceptualise cause and effect)
drug/alcohol addicts
anger without psychological insight
